Project Plan Services assists PIPC with Group planning standards

Formed in 1992 by an entrepreneurial group of professionals keen to revolutionalise the
management consultancy industry, PIPC has earned an enviable reputation for delivering some
of the largest and most successful programmes in corporate history.

PIPC expertise spans a number of market sectors including: Financial Services; Retail; Oil and
Gas; Utilities; Government & Public, Communications; and the Environmental sector.

Working on one of PIPC’s major banking sector client programmes, Project Plan Services was
contracted to help design and implement the planning standards for a strategic cost reduction
programme within the bank in order to allow for plans across diverse business change initiatives
to be consolidated and reported upon under a common framework. The work was built upon the
lessons learnt and key principles adopted on a recently concluded major integration programme
whilst seeking to improve and streamline concepts where possible.

The key deliverable produced was the planning process handbook which was the end to end
user guide for use by planners at all levels from initiative to work package and to enable them to
create, plan, track and report work and key milestones within detailed MS Project schedules.

The handbook concentrated on the elements required to allow schedules to be centrally
consolidated whilst also including best practice guidance on task level planning and tracking
which was a distinct new requirement for more granularity than had previously been required.
The handbook and template was also made available to provide standards and guidance for
additional group strategic initiatives.

The assignment involved intensive design work alongside a reporting database development
workstream that would automatically consolidate multiple project schedules. Liaison with the
group’s existing planning toolset owner and engagement with key stakeholders within the
central PMO and planning community was also a large and crucial part of the work involved.

Pip Peel PIPC Director commented on the PPS involvement:

“PPS brought a level expertise and drive that was critical to the successful delivery of the
assignment. PIPC continues to value and use PPS experience on it’s large planning
engagements on some of the World’s most complex projects and programmes. ”
